Health Department Resuming Full Inspections Starting Monday
Beginning July 19, 2021, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (Health Department) will resume conducting full inspections, including issuing letter grades and summonses subject to fines.
During the COVID-19 public health emergency, the Health Department conducted modified inspections to shorten the time the inspector would be at the establishment, to protect both Health Department and food service staff. As more New Yorkers are vaccinated and there is decreased community COVID-19 transmission, they will be resuming full inspections designed to make sure that operators are complying with City and State regulations.
The NYC Hospitality Alliance successfully fought to reduce fines and will continue to advocate to reduce unnecessary fines and create a regulatory environment that is focused on education and training first and issuing fines and penalties as a last resort.
