Rethink Food

Rethink Food is a chef-led nonprofit on a mission to build a more equitable and sustainable food system. We connect restaurants, community-based organizations, and food donors to deliver meals where they’re needed most.

Our work is grounded in three core pillars: setting the example through our Sustainable Community Kitchen and dignified, chef-crafted meal production at scale; building the network by partnering with restaurants to deliver nutritious, culturally celebrated meals while creating jobs and supporting small businesses; and advocating for change by championing policies that strengthen local food systems and reduce food waste.

Since our founding in 2017, Rethink Food has provided more than 33 million meals to local communities, partnered with over 200 local restaurants and food businesses, repurposed more than 3 million pounds of donated food, and directed over $144 million to small, local restaurants and food businesses—many of which are minority- and women-owned.

Rethink Food is leading the Chef to Community Tax Credit, a policy proposal introduced in the New York State Assembly that would compensate restaurants for preparing and donating nutritious, chef-made meals—strengthening local economies while expanding access to dignified food.

Together, we’re rethinking the food system and driving lasting change. For more information and for donations, visit rethinkfood.org or follow @rethinkfood on Instagram.
